Speakers, Job Interviews, and Cocktails at MULYP Empowerment Conference

This weekend in East Memphis, the Memphis Urban League Young Professionals (MULYP) will host their third annual Empowerment Conference at the Hilton hotel. A few dozen local industry leaders will serve as panelists and speakers over three days of seminars, parties, and events.

If you're not familiar with the MULYP, it's a membership organization that supports local young professionals in several areas, including professional and personal development, finance and health educations, mentoring, and advocacy. To learn more, check out their Facebook page.

For the full conference schedule, go here. Unless otherwise noted, all of the events take place at the Hilton. Here are the highlights:

Friday evening: Welcome Reception

Saturday morning: Breakfast that includes remarks from both mayors, plus keynote speaker Aerial Ellis of duGard Ellis Public Relations, followed by workshops and breakout sessions on topics like personal branding, entrepreneurship, inclusivity, and the how to make a difference in the community. 

Saturday afternoon: Hiring Lounge from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you're a young professional looking for employment, you'll have the opportunity to meet with HR executives from 15 local companies for on-the-spot interviews. You'll also have a chance to have your resume critiqued and have professional head shots made. 

Saturday night: Mixology cocktail party at The Bradford downtown with local DJs, catering, and bartenders from various local establishments. 

Sunday morning: Farewell Brunch

This conference is a chance for young professionals to hear from leaders in the community, meet one another, and maybe even find a new job. Take a look at the list of speakers, too – it's an impressively diverse group of business owners and industry experts.

A weekend pass is $85 plus fees and tickets are still available. If you just want to go to the Hiring Lounge, tickets are $10 plus fees. If you just want to go to the Mixology party, tickets are $50 plus fees.
