Rise and Shine, It’s BreakFest Time

Think you cook the best omlettes? Got a secret recipe for the perfect pancake? Make a mean bacon-wrapped something? You might want to get a cooking team together and sign up for the first-ever BreakFest coming to the Broad Avenue Water Tower Pavilion on September 26, 2015.

Along the same lines as other Memphis food festivals, BreakFest is primarily a cooking competition, where local foodies will judge teams in five categories: Best Omelet, Best Breakfast Sandwich, Something Sweet, Anything Goes, and Make it with Bacon.

Also like other Memphis food festivals, the teams' food won't be available to the public. You'll need to have a friend with a tent who's willing to share or to be on a team yourself for that access. Winning teams will receive Skillets of Greatness trophies (that is not official BreakFest terminology), bragging rights, and eternal glory.

If you don't have access to a team you can still have plenty of brunch-y fun. So far, four food trucks have signed up to sell breakfast and brunch items: Gourmade, Bluff City Biscuits (you have to try those), El Mero Taco, and Merge Memphis.

There will be live music (lineup TBA), games like cornhole, etc., provided by the Rec Room, plus the Grizz Girls and Claw Crew are scheduled to make an appearance. Relevant Roasters will be on hand selling coffee and Sache will be there mobile screen printing BreakFest t-shirts.

To be on a team – $200 per team (you'll get eight wristbands) and you'll need to email breakfest901@gmail.com

To attend – $9.75 advance tickets (includes fee) and $11.87 at the door, though but attendance is limited, so you'll be taking a chance on not getting in, click here to buy

Second Line Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary from the Second Line. I'm not sure if they're competing. This is just a picture.

There will also be a Bloody Mary Contest for local restaurants. If you want to taste and vote on your favorite Bloody Marys, it's an additional $27.80 presale (includes fees) or $33.11 at the door (space is limited to the first 50 people to sign up) and you'll get to try ten samples.

Tickets are on sale. Pro tip: don't wait to purchase, because attendance is limited.
