5 Things To Do In Memphis This Weekend: 7/31 – 8/2

Happy Friday, Memphis! Quick shameless plug: if you haven't voted in the Memphis Flyer's Best of Memphis reader poll yet, you only have until August 4 to do so. If you've enjoyed this blog or social media accounts, I'd appreciate your consideration for a vote in those categories. Click here to vote, and remember you have to fill out at least 50 percent of the ballot for it to count. Thank you!

And now, here are the five things you won't want to miss this weekend.

Food Truck Friday FedExForum via FEF Instagram

1. Food Truck Friday at FedExForum/Food Truck Friday at the Dixon, Friday, 11 a.m./11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m./1:30 p.m., cost varies, all ages/kid-friendly

Take the kids and try some new food trucks today: you have two opportunities. In East Memphis, head to the Dixon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for Fresh Gulf Shrimp, So Fresh Mobile Juice Bar, and Cariflavor Caribbean Food. Downtown, enjoy the final Food Truck Friday at FedExForum this season from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. for food from Hot Mess, Food Geek, Merge Memphis, and MemPops

2. South Main Art Tour, South Main Arts District, Friday, 6 p.m.- 9 p.m., free, all ages
It's time for the monthly South Main Art Tour (aka "Trolley Night"). Shops and businesses will have open houses, free drinks and snacks. Catch live music at eight different venues, including South Main Sounds (550 S. Main), Double J, Green Beetle, Earnetine & Hazel's, Signal Flow PR, Love Pop Soda Shop, Charlotte, Sache, Guiding Point Financial, and Obsidian PR. The Book Juggler is having a book signing with local bestselling author Stacey Wiedower.

3. Doggiepalooza at Cooper Young Community Farmer's Market, First Congo parking lot, Saturday, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., free, all ages/kid-friendly
Put the pups on leashes and head to the Cooper Young Community Farmer's Market for the 2nd annual Doggiepalooza. In addition to all the usual great produce and local food vendors, there will be dog adoptions, personalized dog tags from Hollywood Feed, all-natural dog treats, Memphis Made beer, live music, and a doggy photo booth.

Falling Into Place

4. Falling Into Place Grand Opening, 2613 Broad Avenue, Saturday, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., free, all ages/kid-friendly
Broad Avenue's newest boutique opens with fun fanfare on Saturday afternoon.  Say Cheese Food Truck, Ghost River Brewing, La Michoacana Paletas, and Hippy Dippy Lemonade will be there for refreshments, Henny Penny Mobile Boutique will be on site for more shopping, plus door prizes plus 10 percent off all purchases.

5. Skinny's B-Day Weekend, Hi-Tone, Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. and $10 both nights, 18 and up
Celebrate Skinny's birthday weekend with two nights of live music from Memphis favorites. Friday night is Dead Soldiers with Mark Edgar Stuart and Saturday night is Lord T & Eloise with the Memphis Dawls and 3rd Base Ninja. (I have no idea how rap duo Lord T & Eloise will combine their aristocrunk tunes with the folksy harmonies of Memphis Dawls, but I imagine it's going blow our minds.)
