5 Things To Do This Weekend: 6/19-6/21

Happy Friday, Memphis! Here are the five things you won't want to miss in Memphis this weekend.

1. Juneteenth Urban Music Festival, Robert Church Park, Friday through Sunday, free to enter, all ages
Juneteenth is a annual celebration that commemorates that end of slavery in the United States. This year's event includes lots of music, food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, education stations, car and bike shows, a Kids' Zone, and more.

2. Big Wig Ball, Annesdale Mansion, Friday, 7 p.m. $75 individual/$130 couple, 21 and up
Support Le Bonheur at this annual soiree where party-goers wear chic cocktail attire and a wig – the bigger and more colorful, the better. Guests will enjoy a night of food, libations, entertainment acts, and a unique silent auction.

3. Outdoors Inc. Canoe and Kayak Race, Greenbelt Park, Saturday, 7 a.m. – 1 p.m., free to watch, $50-$55 to participate
More than 500 people will dip their paddles into the Mississippi River for the June 20th race, which is one of the largest canoe and kayak races in the Southeast. Olympians, world champions and amateurs will compete for more than $15,000 in cash and prizes. Read about my trip kayaking on the Mississippi River here. Register for the race before June 19 here.

Here's an excerpt of the post from local designer Holtermonster that will be for sale on Saturday. See the full poster here. Also, t-shirts!

4. Time-Warp Drive-In "Saturday Night Burn", Summer Drive In, Saturday, doors at 6:30 p.m., $10, 18 and up
The party starts at 7 p.m. with music from local band Terry Prince & The Principles. Movies start about 8:15 p.m. and go all night. This week's theme is "Saturday Night Burn" featuring films like Reefer Madness, Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke, Dazed and Confused and Friday. Don't miss the short film at intermission as well as a preview of Mike McCarthy's newest sci-fi film, WAIF. Due to the subject matter of this edition's films, this edition of Time Warp probably best for adults. Click here for the full lineup of films this summer and fall.

5. Artistik Lounge 3rd Anniversary Show, 1555 Madison Avenue, Sunday, doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m., $10, 21+

Every third Sunday, Artistik Lounge hosts a one-of-a-kind creative music and performing arts show in Memphis. This Sunday's Artistik Lounge celebrates three years of music, spoken word, and expression with artists Artistik Approach, Chinese Connection Dub Embassy, and poet TamE. There's a cash bar and food available.
